Personal Projects

custom scripts website
CustomScripts Website

Developed In: HTML/CSS/JavaScript(ReactJS)

Hosted On: AWS S3 (Cloudfront)

A static React website for a business idea I had while thinking of ways to make money without leaving my room. Originally, I started development on this website to learn ReactJS and Bootstrap, and as you can see I used "minimalist" design principles (I'm lazy).

Believe it or not we're in business so if you're interested send me an email.

English Practice Test

Developed In: HTML/CSS/JavaScript

Hosted On: AWS S3 Bucket

A practice quiz website made to help ESL students at my college study for the AWL (Advanced Word List) Test. I released it to a small group of students and they liked it so now I'm trying to get the school to host it for me so I don't have to pay $2 a month for the S3 bucket.

Special thanks to my good friend Seobin Nam for doing the CSS/Bootstrap work I so adamantly refused to do.

HTTP Custom Requests

Developed In: HTML/Python(Flask)

Hosted On: AWS EC2 (Amazon Linux)

*slaps website* This baby can send HTTP requests with custom headers AND you can see the server HTTP response. *slaps it again* Oh, and it's got two authoritative DNS nameservers on EC2 instances that I built specifically for this website using Bind.

This is the most control I've had over my own website. It's hard not to go mad with power. Unfortunately the servers are down now so I've removed the link.

Consulting Work

PSIJ
Personal Stylist In Japan

Role: Web Consultant

I was brought in to help a new employee turned web developer who had been struggling with making changes to the website. Over the next few months:

  • we went over basic HTML/CSS concepts, and how to apply them to the changes she had to make
  • created a new landing page on the main domain, and linked to it another domain they had bought
  • I was also asked to figure out the eCommerce software they were using on another site so they could make edits in the future. Being unfamiliar with the software, I did what any tech-savvy person would do: click every tab on the page. Eventually I found out what tabs serve what functions, and passed that info down to the other employees

The job was not technically challenging, but I enjoy teaching so it was a good experience.

Some of the more challenging bits (like adding an Instagram feed on the front page) were done by me (and Professor Google).

Brooklyn Japanese Cultural Center

Role: Web Consultant (Ongoing)

A friend of mine who works here referred me to them as "the tech guy". Now I am in the process of helping them revamp their webpage.

My main task was to create a complex form to handle sign-ups for classes. I also added banners/pages to the website to promote certain events.

MREF (Myanmar Rural Electrification Fund)

Role: IT Consultant (Ongoing)

Someone very close to me (cough) works with people in Myanmar to bring power and business opportunities to local communities. I got to visit Myanmar with them and see the people they were working with/helping, which was quite an amazing experience. I provide IT consulting, which pretty much includes anything tech related under the sun, from adding content to the website to giving advice on software usage for developing their companion app. This is (mostly) a volunteer position.
